Expo '70 Commemorative Park

The 1970 World's Fair site never went away. It became a park, and the tower is still standing in the middle of it.

Expo '70 Commemorative Park in Suita, Osaka, is the former site of the 1970 World's Fair. Admission is 450 yen, free for elementary and junior high students. It opens 9:30-17:00 and closes every Wednesday. Only the Osaka Monorail reaches it, not JR. It is not the 2025 Osaka Expo site.

Dates when the park is closed to ordinary visitors

Closed to the public on 31 October – 1 November 2026. During KAMIGATA EXPO PARK FES 2026 the whole of Expo '70 Commemorative Park can only be entered with a festival ticket. The annual Expo All Pass, multi-visit tickets and ordinary advance park tickets are not valid on those days, and the inside of the Tower of the Sun is not open to the general public. If you are visiting Suita for the park, pick another date.

This is not the 2025 Expo site

This park is the site of the 1970 World's Fair. It is not where Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025 was held. That venue was Yumeshima in Osaka City, about an hour away by train. Search results for "Osaka Expo" mix the two constantly, so it is worth settling first.

In a taxi, say "Taiyo no To in Suita" (the Tower of the Sun) rather than "Expo" — it removes the ambiguity.

FAQ

Is Expo '70 Commemorative Park the same place as Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025?

No. Expo '70 Commemorative Park is in Suita City, on the site of the 1970 World's Fair, and is open today as a public park. Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025 was held on Yumeshima in Osaka City and has closed. They are about an hour apart by train.

How much is admission?

450 yen for high school age and above, and free for elementary and junior high school students. One ticket covers the Natural and Cultural Gardens and the Japanese Garden. Prices were revised on 1 April 2026: the adult rate rose from 260 yen and children became free. The Tower of the Sun interior and the National Museum of Ethnology charge separately.

When is the park closed?

Every Wednesday. There are exceptions, such as when a public holiday falls on a Wednesday, so check the current month on the official site before travelling. Opening hours are 9:30-17:00.

Can I get there by JR?

No. The only railway serving the park is the Osaka Monorail, and no JR line reaches it. The Japan Rail Pass is not valid. From Umeda or Shin-Osaka, take the Midosuji subway line to Senri-Chuo and change to the monorail.

Can I go inside the Tower of the Sun on the day?

Normally no. The interior tour must be booked in advance, by the day before at the latest. Viewing the tower from outside needs only the park entry ticket and no reservation.
